I always wanted to do a variety of roles... Even when I started acting and was doing theatre, I was eager to play all sorts of roles. I never narrowed it down to a particular kind of role. Movies like Dor and Iqbal just happened to me. Im glad I was able to do justice to them and had a great experience, but now Im open to various kinds of things.
For me, its about striking a balance between off-beat and commercial movies so I get to explore different territories
Commercial films do not mean bidding goodbye to meatier roles... Whatever roles Ive been offered so far have been good. Whether its Om Shanti Om, Apna Sapna Money Money or Welcome to Sajjanpur, Ive had fun doing them all. In fact, I always wanted to do something absolutely wacky like Golmaal Returns. Many people told me that they didnt expect that I could play a really funny and crazy character like the one in Golmaal Returns. By doing different kinds of movies, I also avoid the risk of being stereotyped as a serious or offbeat actor.Im also doing some glamorous roles in my upcoming films... Im getting to play the lead role in my upcoming movies. Click is a horror flick in which I play a fashion photographer. Then theres Subhash Ghais Paying Guest, which is a comedy, and UTVs Aage Se Right. My role in Aage Se... is the only one thats very me; the rest are completely different, which is challenging and exciting at the same time.Im experimenting with my look with every film... For Golmaal Returns, I was told Id need a complete make-over. I dont know if that has anything to do with me not having the right face. (Laughs) I needed that look for the character and the change was worth it. In my next films too, Ill be seen sporting different looks.Im not saying no to more offbeat roles... If I come across something really intense and special, Ill surely take it up. For now, Im making a special appearance in Nagesh Kukunoors Aashayein. Id also like to say that the rumours about me not being on good terms with Nagesh since I dont have a major role in his next film are outrageous. Nagesh will approach me if he feels I fit into a particular role and Im waiting for a good offer to come along.
